2008 Annual Report: Kai Austin Hargrove

About Kai

We continue to delight in our first grandchild, Kai, as he started walking, communicated with some simple sign language, and even said a few words. We all traipsed out to California for his first birthday, just in time to watch him take his first steps. We used up quite a bit of video time trying to catch him walking, and managed to get a few steps to show everyone. Kai's Birthday, which we've covered separately, was quite a party.

The trip coincided with the annual Baker Weekend, which we managed to attend this year, and a visit to cousins Dave and Emily Grimes in Oregon.

The week after Labor Day, we returned to California and took a family trip to Yosemite. We found a large minivan big enough to hold all of us at once and tested Kai's patience by driving through a massive traffic jam on Friday afternoon. Yosemite was everything we'd hoped, and Kai was walking well enough by then to keep us all on our toes. We've written about the trip in detail on a separate page.

Then, for Thanksgiving, together with Claire, Charles, Amy and Kai, flew to Belize. We took turns playing with Kai while other members of the family dived, birded, cooked, and lay out by the pool.
